The Metric System

What are the advantages of using the Metric System oppose to the English system?
Why is it taking the US so long to fully convert to the Metric System?
How is the International System (SI) different from the Metric System?

  1. The advantages of using the Metric System is that the conversions and calculations are so much easier in the metric system. Many are due to the fact that non metric users don't understand that the metric system is decimal and based on ten as a number base.
While the English system has different bases for each field of activity. Sometimes measurements are reciprocal and sometimes not.

  2. The advantages of using the Metric System is that it is used internationally, making conversions unnecessary and making measurements easier to do, opposed to the English system, where you have to make conversions to the Metric system since most people use the Metric System. It is talking such a long time for the US to convert to the metric system because we are so used to the English System, so we don't want to change.

  3. The advantages of the metric system is that its way easier to use then the english system. Also, its taking the US so long to convert because we are used to the way that the english system works. -Dumisani Samuels

  4. The advantages of using the Metric System oppose to the English system is that :
    The Metric System is :

. It is a universal system
. It is easier to use
    . Calculations are faster
    . Elimate double measuring system
. It was based on a decimal system

It is taking the US to fully convert to the Metric System because:

    . Reluctance to change
    . Expense

  5. the ADVANTAGES OF USING THE METRIC SYSTEM OPPOSE ENGLISH SYSTEM IS THAT THE METRIC SYSTEM IS USED ALMOST EVERYWHERE AROUND THE WORLD, ALSO IT IS EASIER TO USE AND FINALLY IT IS FASTER TO USE THE METRIC SYSTEM RATHER THAN THE MODERN ENGLISH SYSTEM.

IT IS TAKING THE U.S TO FULLY CONVERT TO THE METRIC SYSTEM BECAUSE, WE ARE ALREADY USED TO THE ENGLISH SYSTEM AN ALSO IF WE SWITCH THEN ALL THE SCHOOLS IN THE US WILL HAVE TO GET NEW TEXTBOOKS WHICH WILL COST OVER MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. and WE ARE IN AN ECONOMICAL CRISIS.

  6. The advantages of using the metric system opposed to the English system is it is a world wide system and most people use it so you do not have to make conversions. On the other hand, you would have to convert from the English System to the Metric System because all og the countries are now changing over to the Metric System. It is taking the US a long time to convert to the Metric System because we are use to the English system and it is hard to adjust.

  7. The advantages of using the Metric system opposed to the English System is that it uses less conversions. Many People from different countries know the Metric System by heart, so it is easier if they travel so they don't have to make conversions.

  8. The advantages are that it is easier to calculate and use. It is also universal system so everyone can understand it.
It is taking USA so long to convert because of reluctance to change and expense.
They are both different because they both use different units. For example, in the English system we use inches, gallons, and degrees Fahrenheit, however; in the metric system we use meters, liters, and degrees Celsius. Some units in both systems are similar, like seconds.

  9. The advantages of using the metric system opposed to the english system is it is used as an international system, it is easier to use, the calculations are faster, there is less of a chance that you might get the conversions wrong, and it is based on a decimal system. It is taking the US so long to fully convert to the metric system because some people are reluctant to change. The international system is different from the metric system beacause it uses Kelvin as a temperature reading but the metric system uses Celsius.

  10. The advantages of using the metric system opposed to the English system is that Metric System is much more eaiser than the English stystem becuase the english system is more confusing. The English System has more units than the Meteric System.

U.S. is taking longer for converting English System to Metric System becuase the U.S. got used to the English stystem.

  11. I am posting again and saying that everyone including me forgot to say the the SI is the modern version of the metric system and the only difference is hat the temperature unit for the SI and the metric system is SI is kelvin and Metric is degree celcius.
Now remember when yo talk the english system you are cursing. Also we are ot changing or converting because the elders don't want to be outsmated by children who know the metric system than them. Also we are used to the english system. should we change? or should we not?

  12. The advantages of using the metric system oppose using the English system is that t is easier to find a calculation. For example, in the metric system people use liters and in the English system we have pints, quarts, gallons, cups, etc. It takes the US so long to change to the metric system because it will cost too much money. For example, we have to by cars that show km and gas stations that measure gas in liters. Also, we are use to the English system that we don't want to change. Now, the US is putting the weight of packages in lbs and kg. The international system(SI) is different from the metric system because of the units in temperature. In the international system, we use kelvin. In the metric system, we use Celsius.

  13. The advantages of using the Metric system oppose to the English System is that the Metric System
    -Is a universal system
    -It's easier to use
    -The calculations are faster
-There is less chance of error
-It is based on a decimal system
    -It eliminates double measuring

It is taking the US a lonq time to convert to the Metric System because of reluctance to change and expense.

The International System is different from the Metric System because in the Metric System, they use Celsius as a unit in temperature and in the International System they use Kelvin.

  14. The advantages of using the Metric System oppose to the English System is that the Metric System is
    *Used universally
*More simpler and up to date
*We have less room for errors
*Based on the decimal system which is
    widely known
Also it is taking the United States a long time to convert over to the Metric System because we are stubborn and that would mean that we would have to change all highway signs, measuring devices and much more.
The International System(SI) is different from the Metric System because and only that, in the Metric System we use Celsius to measure the temperature and in the International System(SI) they use Kelvin, another measurement of temperature.

  15. Metric system has advantages like:
    - based on tens
    - easy to convert
    - less chances of gettin the convertion wrong
Its taking long to convert to Metric system because right now everything is based on English System like:
    - Miles per hour
    - packaging
International System uses Kelvin instead of celcius like Metric system

  16. Advantages of the Metric System:
    -universal system
    -easier to use
    -calculations are faster
    -less chance of an error
    -based on a decimal system

The US is taking so long to fully convert to the Metric System because we are so used to using the old English system. Also it would cost a lot of money to change everything to the Metric System. For example, we would have to pay money to change the road signs to the Metric System measurement.

  17. It looks like everyone has the same answer. I am not going to say exactly what everyone else said but expand on the topics instead.

First off the metric system uses the base of 10 and humans count in the base of 10 since we all have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs. Also money around the world is most likely metric like 100 cents or pennies or centavo instead of using the dollars, pounds, the Euro or the peso.

A lot of things are sold using the metric systems even in countries like the United States of America such as soda bottles that use liters. To back up the metric system I would say it is much easier to calculate areas and volumes in metric terms.

The weights are much easier also. One other good thing about the metric system is that not only is it worldwide but it is in the units of 10,100,1000 etc.

But, as we all know everything has a good and bad affect. So the metric system does have some disadvantages. The United States of America aren't adapting to this system and find it harder then the standard system that is being used currently here in the US.

And because of this, some countries find it hard to trade with the United States. That means all the great tasting food that is being imported into the United States and exported from its home country may not be here much longer unless the United States can change to the metric system. Expense is also another big factor for a disadvantage. Especially in these tough times in the economy.
